On June 12 and 13, 2003, the School of Agricultural of the University of Nottingham (UK) hosted the sixth meeting of the Project Management Committee. As this was the final PMC-meeting the final phase of the project was discussed. Usual agenda items (planning, bottlenecks, solutions, milestones, etc.) were discussed and special attention was given to dissemination of project results. Not only a presentation of the plans for the International Symposium 'Automatic Milking - for a better understanding', to be held on March 24-26, 2004, in Lelystad, the Netherlands, was given, but also possible ways to disseminate the results to farmers on a national scale was discussed by the PMC-members. |

In the afternoon of June 12 the PMC visited the new research farm of the Nottingham University, which has about 200 cows, an individual roughage intake system including automatic feeding and 3 Merlin automatic milking systems. The farm manager of the research farm and Mr. Gordon Crofts, sales director of Fullwood, gave the PMC members a tour around the impressive research facilities. Although it was concluded that there seems to be hardly any realistic opportunities for continuation of this EU-project within the sixth EU-framework, it was mentioned that this project has lead to ongoing cooperation between most of the participating institutes. |
