The Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences has an established, multidisciplinary, expertise in characterising clinical and sub-clinical health status, milking technique, udder health, quality of milk and animal behaviour and welfare. It uses a range of techniques including veterinary and behavioural appraisals, metabolite and hormone measurements, challenge tests, and management of immunocompetence. It coordinates Danish projects on automatic milking, advises the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration in scientific aspects of automatic milking, udder health and milk quality and is in charge of the official testing of automatic milking systems in Denmark. The Department has it's own laboratory facilities and has access to the Institute's dairy herd (250 cows) and the Cattle Research centre with 150 cows milked automatically. |
