Automatic milking

The Department has, among others, the responsibility for basic and applied research in farm animals. It will contribute to the project from the following fields of research: feeding and social behaviour of dairy cows in relation to management systems and environment; milking systems and lactation physiology; animal health and welfare related to production systems, and product quality. The Department has relevant laboratory facilities and other research facilities, including a full-scale research unit for automatic milking, well equipped with automatic continuous registration of activities; amount, time and type of feed and water intake; automatic live weight recording and cow behaviour. The scientists have long-time experience in cow research related to feeding, management, health, environmental effects on cattle behaviour, milking technique and lactation physiology.
