First consultation on work package 10: Automatic milking and grazing

A joint work planning meeting with research groups from DIAS, Foulum (Dk); PV, Lelystad (NL) and SLU, Uppsala (S), involved in wp 10 was held at DIAS, Foulum, Dk March 12, 2001. It was concluded that the work package will gain by co-operation within and between the work package. In Wp 10 the studies are complementary but with great possibility of integration. The Dutch group will make a summary of the survey including methods and translate it into English. The Swedish and the Danish group will collaborate on studies of how to attract the cows to the milking unit, which is the main research issue for the Swedish team. The plan for on farms studies in Denmark this summer was accepted. At the Dutch research station focus will be on milking frequency, distance to pasture, cow-traffic and comparison of continued grazing-strip grazing. If possible, one box will be closed for a period in order to investigate the capacity. Next meeting is to be held in Uppsala, 4-5 February, 2002.
