The seventeenth deliverable of the project is the second one of work package
6, 'Effectiveness of automatic cleaning of udder and teats and effects of
hygiene management'. It is the
'Report on effectiveness
of cleaning procedures applied in different automatic milking systems'.
The assessment of the teat cleaning efficiency of different types of cleaning
devices in automatic milking systems is the subject of this report. Two
different approaches were chosen and described for evaluation of teat cleaning
devices. An analyses was carried out to find out which of the factors brand,
farm, position of quarter and initial contamination of teats was most important
for teat cleaning efficiency. The most important factors appeared to be the
individial farm and the initial contamination before teat cleaning. Findings of
this study underline the importance of management to ensure an effective teat
cleaning. The last deliverable of this work package (D15) will evaluate
different management factors regarding their influence on teat cleanliness. Message date:
